TEENAGER Josh Corner heads to the final round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Evo Championship this weekend with his sights set on finishing in runner-up spot. As the championship reaches its finale at Brands Hatch in Kent, second place in the title scrap is still up for grabs.
Corner, of South Shields, Tyne and Wear, goes into the last round just four points adrift of Tim Hastings in the race to the runner-up spot after a hard-fought season. Aboard his MJJ Motorsport/Alpha Paints Ltd Kawasaki, Corner has picked up a haul of silverware along the way including one win and a number of second and third places.
After a difficult weekend at Silverstone earlier this month, he plans to come out fighting this weekend as he eyes two wins at the track where he scored his first Evo podium a year ago.
“After some really good results this season, Silverstone was a tricky one for us all but I’m confident and raring to go for Brands,” he said. “I was a bit disappointed at the last round because I feel I should’ve picked up more points, but I’ve closed the gap and it means it’s all to play for.
“The championship may have been won already but the runner-up spot is still there for the taking, and I want to be the one taking it! I got my first Evo win at the last round last year and we’ve done a lot of work on the bike since we were last here. I’m confident I can make it count this weekend and I’ll be putting everything I have into making it happen.”
Corner’s weekend will kick-off with practice on Friday, October 17 followed by qualifying and a sprint race on Saturday. It will culminate in the longer feature race on Sunday afternoon.
